PKN ORLEN’s fifth responsible business report was distinguished for quality. The jury also underlined company’s consistency in the community report.
The results of the “Community Report 2009” contest, the third thus far, were announced at the annual Responsible Business Forum conference. PKN ORLEN received two distinctions. The presentation by jury member Mirella Panek – Owsiańska, President of the Responsible Business Forum, emphasised the company's consistent excellence in social reporting. As it was last year, the report was highly regarded by stakeholders, who in internet voting recognized it as the best compiled.
“Social reporting is a permanent element of our informational policy” said Jacek Krawiec, President of the Board of PKN ORLEN. “This year’s report required particular attention and openness, as it was the first to be prepared according to the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative, objectively presenting and evaluating the company’s engagement in responsible business practices. „We are especially pleased to be recognised by the internet users, who consituted an independent jury, as it gives an appreciation for the importance of these kinds of activities and reviews.”
The goal of the contest is to make widespread the concept of responsible business. The project’s organizers, CSR Consulting, the Responsible Business Forum and PricewaterhouseCoopers intend for it to shed light on the importance of social reporting and point out best practices in the field. The distinctions go to enterprises take into consideration the good of the community and environment in their operations, but also who present their activities in a transparent, credible manner in public reviews.
The jury of the contest was made up of experts from the fields of economics, environmental protection, social issues, and social responsibility in business The report submitted to the contest were judged by: Prof. Witold Orłowski, Prof. Jerzy Hausner, Prof. Wojciech W. Gasparski, Dr. Piotr Rogala, Dr. Piotr Wachowiak, Jan Jakub Wygnański, and Mirella Panek - Owsiańska.
During the conference, the results of the BI-NGO Index were also announced. The authors of the index noted that, contrary to projections, the number of leaders is shrinking. Only three companies remained in that elite group during the three years studied, 2007-2009, including PKN ORLEN.
The study is conducted by the Institute for Partnership between Business and Non-Governmental Organizations, Lodz University's Department of City and Regional Management, and CSR Consulting. It’s aim is annual verification of information concerning social engagement of companies communicated over the Internet. To that end, over 500 web sites of the largest Polish companies are checked.
