Global experts talk about a new Europe

28-09-2011  |     |

The most eminent experts in the fields of economics and politics will meet at the European Forum for New Ideas in Sopot to talk about Europe’s place in the new global economic order. A plenary debate entitled “Is the world bound to grow?”, hosted by PKN ORLEN, will be one of the key items on the event’s agenda.

The European Forum for New Ideas will be held in Sopot on September 28th-30th 2011. The event is organised in a special time when the global markets are becoming totally unpredictable and the world is redefining its views on modern economics and economy. Representatives of the world of business, science and politics from all over the world have been invited to meet in Poland, the country presiding over the European Union, which is aware of the threats posed by the current economic environment. Guests invited to take part in the event include Benjamin R. Barber, Zygmunt Bauman, William Chandler, Oliver E. Williamson, Lord Mandelson, Nouriel Roubini, Peter Schwartz, Jürgen Thumann, as well as Lech Wałęsa, Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, Danuta Hübner and Magdalena Środa. The business community will be represented by presidents of the largest Polish companies, including Jacek Krawiec, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN, a Strategic Partner of the European Forum for New Ideas.

“Europe is currently in an unprecedented situation. Questions, which only recently seemed to us totally abstract, such as those concerning the continued growth outlook, have today become very relevant. Coming up with an answer to such questions requires discussions between experts and representatives of business and politics. The European Forum for New Ideas offers an excellent opportunity to establish such a dialogue,” said Jacek Krawiec, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN.

PKN ORLEN has for many years always participated in major events of this kind. Since last year, the Company has been responsible for its own series of debates and publications under the common name Future Fuelled by Knowledge.

As part of the European Forum for New Ideas, President Jacek Krawiec will lead a plenary session organised by PKN ORLEN and entitled „Is the world bound to grow?”. Many distinguished guests from the world of global business and politics have accepted invitation to take part in the meeting, including Dominic Barton, Managing Director at McKinsey & Co., Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Lord Peter Mandelson, Member of the House of Lords, former EU Commissioner, Dr Nouriel Roubini, President of Roubini Global Economics, Peter Schwartz, President of Global Business Network, Hiromi Yamaji, Executive Vice-President, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, Global Investment Banking, Nomura Securities Co.

“We are very happy with the fact that such eminent guests have accepted the invitation to take part in the debate organised by us. Now, when we are thinking about Europe’s growth prospects, we should be drawing from experts’ knowledge more than at any other time. I am glad that PKN ORLEN may contribute to the promotion of such a dialogue,” said President Jacek Krawiec.

During the debate our guests will talk about such issues as the impact of global economic processes on the standing and stability of the economies of EU member states, the possibility of developing a common pro-growth policy within the EU and the conditions required to promote the growth of businesses. The debate hosted by PKN ORLEN will be held on September 29th at 9.30 am.
