Respect Index at the Warsaw Stock Exchange

According to the rating published today by the Warsaw Stock Exchange, PKN ORLEN joined the elite group of 16 companies listed under Respect Index. It gathers quoted companies applying a responsible management system towards all groups of stakeholders.

Today on the Warsaw Stock Exchange Respect Index (RI) had its debut. The main objective of the project is to promote responsible management in public companies in the context of communication on the financial market, sustainable growth and information order.

- A modern consumer pays attention not only to the quality and price of the product, but also to transparency of producer behaviour in business and its attitude towards the environment. This is one of the main reasons why social responsibility of business climbs in the hierarchy of tasks of modern companies, such as PKN ORLEN. Today’s inauguration of Respect Index is a proof of growing maturity of the Polish market and substantial need for companies to engage in such undertakings. The consistent building of good relations helps to reinforce trust and create partnership based on solid grounds, which influences the value and profits of the company - said Jacek Krawiec, CEO of PKN ORLEN.

Actions in accordance with the principles of responsible business are permanently set down in the philosophy of PKN ORLEN’s activities.

- Examples of living by CSR rules can be found among others at PKN ORLEN stations, where ecological fuels and packagings are offered, and coffee in Stop Café offer is a Fair Trade product. The company is also active on the local scale. For inhabitants of Płock, where our production plant operates, the holding company is not only a responsible employer, but also the company caring to reduce its impact on the environment, financially supporting the development of the city, education, safety, healthcare, or innovative projects of NGOs - added Leszek Kurnicki, Marketing Executive Director of PKN ORLEN.

The holding company pays particular attention to righteously inform about its activity and communicate forthwith all crucial undertakings, plans and decisions both in a direct way and by means of its expanded website or periodic reports. Moreover, in 2006 the holding company was the first listed company to introduce the standard of internet broadcast from press conferences or general meetings. According to obtained statistics they are used by hundreds of people.

This year, for the fifth time the company published the report on responsible business, which for the first time was developed in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative standards. Soon it will also be available on-line.
