BIO Partnership between Trzebinia Refinery and the City of Cracow

Yesterday, the authorities of Cracow and Trzebinia Refinery (ORLEN Group) signed a letter of intent regarding the use of bio-fuels by the municipal transportation authority. Under The Partner Programme both Cracow transportation and the city cleaning services will be testing Trzebinia Refinery’s BIO ON diesel which has a bio-component content of 20%.

The Programme is designed to significantly lower fuel emissions which adversely affect Cracow’s monuments and inhabitants. The use of cutting edge BIO ON will also minimize noise levels. The parameters of the new diesel’s use will be regularly monitored across the city, with a particular focus on exhaust and smoke levels.

The high quality of Trzebinia Refinery’s BIO ON diesel has been confirmed by experts from Institute of Petroleum Processing in Cracow and Central Petroleum Laboratory in Warsaw. The bio-diesel is resistant to microbiological contamination and chemical corrosion. It can also be used in temperatures of lower than 30 Celsius.

Trzebinia Refinery, which is 77.15% owned by PKN ORLEN, was founded in 2004 and is Poland and Europe’s most modern biodiesel plant. The plant’s manufacturing capacity equals 100,000 tonnes of methyl esters per annum with the possibility of an increase of up to 200,000 tpa.
