Second Diesel oil hydrodesulphurisation unit (HON) upgraded

The Mazeikiu refinery has launched upgrading works at the second Diesel oil hydrodesulphurisation unit. Completion is scheduled for early April.

The investment is being made  to prepare another unit for the production of low-sulphur Diesel oil. The Lithuanian refinery has been producing this type of fuel since January, based on the Diesel oil desulphurisation unit upgraded in the autumn of 2008. The Sulphur content needs to be reduced in Diesel oil under new EU standards, valid as of 1 January 2009, which allow  a maximum sulphur level of 10 ppm.

With the second HON having been upgraded, low-sulphur Diesel oil production will be boosted. Thanks to the new investment, Mazeikiu's Diesel oil offer will be strengthened and more competitive in  European markets.

Oil processing will drop in the course of the upgrade. However, the sales of ready-made products to local markets will not be affected.
