PKN ORLEN – the highest quality of information policy

PKN ORLEN received top marks for the quality of its information policy and observance of principles of corporate governance in the WarsawScan ranking. The Holding company’s website once again received the highest marks in the category of communication with investors.

In the WarsawScan 2010 survey analysts and assets managers representing domestic brokerage houses, investment and pension funds and asset management institutions took part. The survey covered 60 companies with the largest share in the WSE turnover in 2009. Results of the survey conducted on the basis of the CitiScan methodologies developed by a London-based investor relations agency Citigate Dewe Rogerson were published by the NBS Public Relations agency.

According to Jacek Krawiec, CEO of PKN ORLEN, this award is a valuable measure of efficiency in building investors’ trust towards the Company – Gaining trust and convincing the market that company affairs are in good hands is crucial. It is important for investors and analysts to know that even in a difficult situation the company is presenting its situation in a reliable and complex way, and the management board is a partner with a specific action plan and consistency in implementation. Our reliable information policy brings results because we treat it as an element of building company value – CEO of the Holding company said.

In 2009 PKN ORLEN conducted 232 meetings with representatives of foreign and Polish funds/institutions and analysts. 4 conferences were organized, which consisted of a teleconference with the capital market representatives and a press conference presenting PKN ORLEN’s periodic results. In response to market expectations, the form of dedicated meetings with Polish investors following quarterly results was changed from group meetings to individual ones. They were conducted after every quarterly results during the so-called „Warsaw roadshow”. PKN ORLEN’s representatives also took part in 7 international investor conferences. A so-called “European roadshow” – a series of individual visits in several cities headquartering European investors – was also organized.

According to the organizers of the survey, a vast majority of respondents (91.8 per cent) acknowledged that observing the principles of corporate governance and a good communication with investors may influence the valuation of companies, whilst 47.5 per cent of participants in the survey agreed that maintaining high standards in this respect may increase the valuation even by over 10 per cent.

This year’s victory is another award for PKN ORLEN in the scope of investor relations. The company has already been awarded inter alia by IR Magazine monthly in 2007 in the category of the best Polish listed company in the scope of investor relations. In March 2010, in the ranking of Puls Biznesu daily and Pentor Research Institute, PKN ORLEN was named Listed Company of the Year in the category of Investor Relations.

NBS Public Relations has been conducting surveys since 2003 in order to assess the quality of investor relations undertaken by the companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. According to observers, surveys are an extremely important source of knowledge on investors’ expectations in the scope of communication and crucial information, necessary to assess companies with regard to their investment attractiveness.
