Recruitment procedure for the positions of the President and Members of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN
The Supervisory Board is seeking candidates with extensive experience and skills, capable of creating a high-powered team of performance-oriented and target-oriented professionals who will ensure that PKN ORLEN S.A. maintains a long-term ability to compete in Poland and in the region.
We are seeking candidates with the highest ethical standards and excellent management and interpersonal skills who are able to foster effective top-level business relations in complex ownership arrangements and in challenging business environment.
We are seeking managers with track records of successful leadership in difficult, fast-changing and highly competitive sectors and within complex corporate groups operating internationally.
General rules of the recruitment competition:
1. Candidates should submit their applications in sealed envelopes marked with the following note: “Recruitment procedure for the position of ……. (specify the position) at PKN ORLEN S.A.” by February 28th 2011.

- excerpt from the criminal record confirming no criminal offences committed by the applicant,
- mailing address and telephone number,
- statement confirming the fulfilment of the criteria specified in item 3,
- statement confirming the applicant’s consent to process his/her personal data for the purposes of the recruitment procedure,
- statement confirming the applicant’s consent to collect his/her references and credentials (provided that the applicant is included in the final short list),
- declaration of submission to the verification procedure (applies to Polish citizens) or, alternatively, a security certificate authorising the applicant to access information marked as “confidential”,
- statement to the effect that no criminal proceedings have been instigated or are pending against the applicant,
- statement confirming that the applicant has obtained approval in respect of the performance of duties in the governing bodies of a legal person.
3. All candidates for the positions of President of the Management Board and Members of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN S.A. must:
- enjoy full civic rights,
- have the full capacity to enter into legal transactions,
- not be subject to any legal restriction or ban on serving as member of the management board of a commercial company or restriction on conducting business activities.
4. Documents, either originals or copies authenticated by the applicant, confirming the applicant’s qualifications (including certificates of employment covering the period of the last five years) should be enclosed with the application.
5. All candidates for the positions of President of the Management Board and Members of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN S.A. are required to have the following qualifications and skills:
- university degree, preferably in economics, law, management or other relevant studies,
- practical knowledge of structure and management of commercial companies, in particular public companies, with particular focus on state ownership and corporate governance,
- at least five years of experience in managerial positions at commercial companies, preferably in international corporate groups, or at least five years of experience in leading large management teams,
- knowledge and experience in value-based management, experience in change management (reorganisation/restructuring),
- excellent communications and organisational skills and ability to work in complex management teams,
- knowledge of the Company-specific business and industry,
- highest ethical standards,
- good command of the English language.
6. Essential selection criteria for the position of President of PKN ORLEN S.A.’s Management Board include:
- knowledge in the fields of investment project evaluation and corporate finance,
- experience in developing corporate strategies,
- submission of a paper presenting the candidate’s own vision of the Company’s development (up to five A4-format pages)
7. Essential selection criteria for the position of PKN ORLEN S.A.’s Management Board Member include:
- knowledge of the relevant area of the Company’s activities,
- experience in the relevant business area, as well as experience in senior managerial positions at large commercial companies with complex organisational structures,
- submission of a paper presenting the candidate’s own vision of the Company’s development, relevant to the position applied for (up to four A4-format pages).
8. The candidates will be notified of the venue and date of an interview by phone. The Supervisory Board’s decisions will be communicated to the candidates shortlisted to the final round of the recruitment process by registered mail.
9. The Supervisory Board reserves the right to:
- use third-party personnel advisory services during the recruitment process;
- interview only selected candidates;
- close the recruitment procedure at any time without stating the reasons and with no candidates being selected.
10. The persons who submit their applications for the position of President of PKN ORLEN S.A.’s Management Board may, subject to their consent, participate in the recruitment process for the position of Management Board Member without the need to reapply.
11. Upon completion of the recruitment process, the documents submitted by applicants may be collected at PKN ORLEN S.A.’s office in Warsaw, ul. Chłodna 51, room 36.07, within two weeks following the completion of the recruitment process, i.e. from March 28th to April 8th 2011. The documents submitted by candidates appointed for the managerial positions at PKN ORLEN S.A. will not be returned.
We hereby inform all applicants that pursuant to Par. 9.3 of PKN ORLEN S.A.’s Articles of Association, each Management Board Member is appointed and removed from office by the Supervisory Board at the request of the Minister of the State Treasury.
