The Foundation of the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Oil and Gas Industry Museum in Bóbrka was established on August 24th 2004 by three founders: ORLEN, Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo and the Polish Association of Oil and Gas Industry Engineers and Technicians
The Foundation’s purpose was to maintain and develop the museum, protect the equipment of historical value, increase the collection, popularise and promote the museum, and protect cultural heritage.
At Bóbrka, the world’s oldest oil mine was established in 1854, and the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Oil and Gas Industry Museum was established in its place. The authentic exhibits and documents on display at the museum are a testament to the history of the oil industry from its very inception until present day. It is a globally unique facility. Its opening in 1972 fell on the 150th anniversary of Ignacy Łukasiewicz’s birth.
