PKN ORLEN closes acquisition of petrochemical assets

PKN ORLEN has closed the transaction to acquire a part of the business of Poland’s largest plastics manufacturer Basell Orlen Polyolefins, in which the Company holds an equity interest. The business involves the production and marketing of LDPE, as well as customer service in the Polish market. The transaction was cleared by the Polish and Dutch antitrust regulators. The acquired production capacity is 100 thousand tonnes per year, which means that PKN ORLEN, as Poland’s only producer of LDPE, will single-handedly cover about a third of the country’s overall demand for the plastic.

PKN ORLEN completes three transactions in Poland with Aramco

PKN ORLEN has finalised three transactions with Aramco involving refining, wholesale and plane fuel businesses, following PKN ORLEN’s merger with Grupa LOTOS. The European investments support expansion of Aramco’s global downstream presence. Moreover, the joint development agreement of PKN ORLEN, Aramco and SABIC for the potential Gdansk project was signed. Aramco is to supply almost 45% of PKN ORLEN’s crude oil requirement under the agreement.

ORLEN Group invests in green transport solutions

The ORLEN Group is building Poland’s first green biogas plant to make a real contribution to reducing CO2 emissions from heavy goods transport. The pilot plant being built in Głąbowo (Province of Olsztyn), will produce over 7 million cubic metres of biomethane annually, which will then be converted into fuel, bioLNG. This volume allows a truck to travel 22 million kilometres. Estimated to cost PLN 180m, the project is slated to become operational in the second half of 2024.

ORLEN Group develops new green business segment

The ORLEN Group is investing in environmentally-friendly projects to manage plastic waste. The agreement signed by ORLEN Unipetrol to acquire the Italian-Czech company REMAQ, a Central European leader in recycling, is an element of the strategic plan implemented by the Group. The transaction will help the ORLEN Group to achieve almost 10% of the 2030 strategic target for recycling capacity. Plastic waste will be used to make new petrochemical products for applications in the construction, automotive and packaging industries.

ORLEN - LOTOS merger completed

The ORLEN Group has finalised its merger with Grupa LOTOS, strengthening its leading role in the fuel and energy industry in Central and Eastern Europe. The final step in the process that has been successfully completed was registration of the merger by the District Court of Łódź. PKN ORLEN evaluates a potential investment in petrochemicals with Aramco and SABIC

PKN ORLEN has confirmed it is discussing with Aramco and SABIC the possibility of collaborating in investments in various petrochemical business segments. An existing triparty MoU will be extended to evaluate a potential joint development of a large-scale mixed feed steam cracker and downstream derivatives integrated with the Gdańsk refinery. Moreover, PKN ORLEN and Aramco continue to explore areas of cooperation in the field of research and development.

Green fuel from ORLEN to power LOT aircraft

The hydrotreated vegetable oil plant currently under construction in Płock will enable PKN ORLEN to offer a low-carbon sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to airlines starting from 2025. This innovative product will be made from used cooking oils. SAF offers a reduction of up to 80% in carbon emissions over the lifecycle of the fuel compared to traditional jet fuel and is suitable for jet engines used in aircraft today. PKN ORLEN and PLL LOT have signed an agreement on cooperation in implementing pro-environmental solutions helping to meet the requirements of the EU’s Fit for 55 package.

LDPE is a polyethylene product with a wide range of applications, used typically to make plastic films, bags, canisters and food packaging. ORLEN Group contemplating investments in Lithuania’s energy sector

In line with its strategy, the ORLEN Group is investing in Lithuanian assets to reinforce the market position of ORLEN Lietuva, its strategic subsidiary operating the Baltic Sea region’s only refinery, which already runs on crude oil sourced fully outside of Russia. During his meeting with Ingrida Šimonytė, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, the PKN ORLEN CEO Daniel Obajtek presented the Group’s key strategic objectives the delivery of which would strengthen the economies of both countries and, first and foremost, enhance the energy security of this part of Europe. The talks revolved mainly around further expansion of the refinery in Mažeikiai and the Group’s plans to invest in wind power, hydrogen and small modular reactors.
