ORLEN employs advanced technology in communicating with the market
13-06-2012    awards

ORLEN has received a special award in the 5th edition of the “Golden Website” contest for conducting investor relations using modern methods of Internet communication. For a number of years we have used our web site to communicate relevant and interesting information to our investors, such as financial reports or reports from financial conferences. But an absolute novelty recently added to our communication tools is the mobile version of the recently published 2011 Annual Report.

The jury of this year’s „Golden Website” contest, chaired by the President of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, judged companies on such merits as the usefulness of information and its presentation on web sites, the speed and manner of replies by the Investor Relations Department and the web site’s usability and technology.

The prize awarded by the Polish Association of Listed Companies is another distinction for PKN ORLEN for the quality and manner of its communication with investors and equity analysts.

PKN ORLEN has developed and implemented a number of innovative solutions, which function not only on the investor relations’ page but across ORLEN’s entire Internet site. These include:

- Functionality enabling comparison of PKN ORLEN’S share price with the performance of the main market indices,

- Interactive charts for comparing PKN ORLEN’S financial and operating indicators at different points in time,

- Automatic event reminders by e-mail or text message,

- A user-friendly service for mobile phones and other mobile devices,

- ORLEN Mobile – a petrol station search engine and a wide range of other services,

- Audio and video recordings, newsletters, audio books, e-books and advanced search engines.

PKN ORLEN was one of the fore-runners of audio-visual Internet transmissions of its press conferences and shareholder meetings. The solutions first launched by the Company have now become a standard on the Polish capital market.

PKN ORLEN, having regard to the development of new technologies and the ever wider range of users of electronic devices, is gradually making its documents available in electronic form, also through mobile applications. This year the Company has launched a mobile version of its web-site – m.orlen.pl, which offers such functionalities as a service station search engine, a travel planner and MP3 recordings of PKN ORLEN’S financial results conferences.

An absolute novelty in communicating with the market is a mobile version of PKN ORLEN’S recently published 2011 Annual Report. This electronic solution, so far unprecedented among publications of annual reports, is intended for smartphone users looking for fast access to interesting information. More importantly, the mobile service www.m.raport.orlen.pl – available also at the traditional address www.raportroczny.orlen.pl – is not an application, but a mobile internet service compatible with every operating system used in smartphones.

The mobile service includes the entire content of a classic report, and the tables have changeable presentations such as portrait and landscape, as well as „moveable” headers which move together with the scrolled information. The mobile version also offers an option to view reports entirely by tables and graphs.

The electronic version of the Report employs every technical solution to increase the document’s usability. One such solution is the Flipping Book, which was added to the right menu of each of the main chapters of the report. This application provides a quick and easy integration between the text being read and the related content within the document. Independently, Flipping Book is a spontaneous and attractive browser of financial reports with an effective and successful search engine automatically highlighting the searched phrase throughout the entire document.

New features of the 2011 Annual Report, which can be found at www.raportroczny.orlen.pl are multimedia elements such as audio-video clips on the subject of shale gas in Poland, and a video-conference on Q4 2011 results.

It is worth reminding that so far PKN ORLEN has received a number of prizes for its information policy:

• Three times in a row the „Best investor relations by a Polish company” prize, awarded by the prestigious monthly IR Magazine. Representatives of the international capital market appreciated the Company for its open and transparent information policy, often exceeding the standards followed by companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
• “The Best Annual Report 2010” prize for an on-line annual report awarded in 2011 by Instytut Rachunkowości i Podatków.
• First place in Warsaw Scan 2011 for the most well run information policy and corporate governance,
• First place in Warsaw Scan 2011 – for the best investor relations internet page.
