ORLEN Group secures licences for five wind farms in the Baltic Sea

The ORLEN Group has received the Minister of Infrastructure’s final decision awarding licences for five new offshore wind farm development sites. The decision marks the initiation of the project’s preparatory phase. The ORLEN Group’s forthcoming five offshore farms are planned to have a capacity of approximately 5.2 GW, generating sufficient clean energy to meet the needs of around 8 million households.

ORLEN to expand retail presence into Austria

The European Commission has given the green light to ORLEN’s proposed acquisition of 266 fuel stations in the Austrian market. When the deal is completed, Austria will be the seventh European retail market to be served by the ORLEN fuel network. It will position ORLEN close to achieving 97 per cent of its strategic objective for the number of stations in its portfolio by the year 2030. As a result, ORLEN is set to emerge as one of the three major players in the Austrian fuel market, commanding a retail market share of about 10 per cent.

ORLEN partners with Yokogawa to develop cutting-edge technology for sustainable aviation fuel production

ORLEN and Yokogawa Europe, the regional headquarters for Japan’s Yokogawa Electric Corporation, announce they have joined forces to initiate industrial-scale production of carbon neutral synthetic aviation fuels. In a landmark Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 21, the two companies have come together to enhance the technological process responsible for synthesising fuel from carbon dioxide and green hydrogen. ORLEN is looking to establish itself as a frontrunner in this emerging market segment, poised to drive effective decarbonisation of the aviation industry.

ORLEN Group will build its own oil pressing plant

ORLEN Południe, part of the ORLEN Group, has signed a contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art oilseed processing plant in Kętrzyn (Province of Olsztyn). The plant is set to process 500 thousand tonnes of rapeseed annually, yielding a production output of 200 thousand tonnes of oil for the purpose of manufacturing low-carbon biofuels. This investment will not only generate employment opportunities but will also be a stable source of demand for Polish farmers cultivating the rapeseed crop.

Baltic Power secures credit facility agreements for Poland’s first offshore wind farm

The ORLEN Group and Northland Power have entered into credit facility agreements to finance their joint Baltic Power project, the first wind farm, which will be constructed in the Polish waters of the Baltic Sea. The agreements have been signed with a syndicate comprising 25 Polish and international financial institutions, marking one of the key stages in the project preparation process.

ORLEN acquires Poland’s first hydrogen-powered locomotive and commences testing phase

ORLEN has been consistently developing hydrogen technology for transport applications. The Group has recently purchased a state-of-the-art locomotive from PESA Bydgoszcz, making it the first hydrogen-propelled rail vehicle in Poland. Concurrently, the testing phase has commenced. As part of the operational tests, the locomotive made its maiden voyage between Gdynia and Hel. This marks yet another project aligned with the ORLEN Group’s hydrogen strategy to use hydrogen in rail and public transport. The Group plans to invest PLN 7.4bn by 2030 in hydrogen technologies based on renewable energy sources and waste-to-hydrogen technology.

ORLEN completes its rebranding in the Slovak market

The size of the company’s retail network in Slovakia has almost doubled this year, with all 90 stations now operating under the ORLEN brand. Following this successful rebranding, ORLEN is going to focus on enhancing its non-fuel product range and advancing the distribution of alternative fuels, which will include launching the first electric vehicle charging points. The plans also provide for further growth in the number of service stations.

ORLEN set to start construction of installation terminal in Świnoujście

The ORLEN Group has selected a contractor for the onshore part of the installation terminal, which will support offshore wind farms. Construction will begin in October and will be completed in late 2024 or early 2025. Once completed, the terminal will facilitate the installation of more than 80 offshore wind turbines per year. It will be equipped to handle the Baltic Power project as well as other planned wind ventures.

ORLEN is actively expanding its presence in Norway to bolster Poland’s energy security

The ORLEN Group is strengthening its position in Norway and preparing to launch production from new fields. Over the next few months, the Group is set to start production from the Tommeliten Alpha field, which will yield an additional 0.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This is one of nine investment projects undertaken in the past two years to enhance the ORLEN Group’s gas production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The gas extracted from the new fields will be transported to Poland through the Baltic Pipe pipeline, reinforcing the country’s energy security and independence.
