Green project in Trzebinia produces fuel from used oils

ORLEN Południe, an ORLEN Group company, has launched a new facility at its Trzebinia refinery to produce biocomponents from used cooking oils and animal fats. UCO FAME will deliver 30,000 tonnes of second-generation esters and 7,000 tonnes of technical-grade glycerine annually. This green project is part of the ORLEN Group's strategy in the area of biofuels, enabling the replacement of fossil fuels with fuels made from waste materials.

ORLEN Group secures licences for five wind farms in the Baltic Sea

The ORLEN Group has received the Minister of Infrastructure’s final decision awarding licences for five new offshore wind farm development sites. The decision marks the initiation of the project’s preparatory phase. The ORLEN Group’s forthcoming five offshore farms are planned to have a capacity of approximately 5.2 GW, generating sufficient clean energy to meet the needs of around 8 million households.

ORLEN Group will build its own oil pressing plant

ORLEN Południe, part of the ORLEN Group, has signed a contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art oilseed processing plant in Kętrzyn (Province of Olsztyn). The plant is set to process 500 thousand tonnes of rapeseed annually, yielding a production output of 200 thousand tonnes of oil for the purpose of manufacturing low-carbon biofuels. This investment will not only generate employment opportunities but will also be a stable source of demand for Polish farmers cultivating the rapeseed crop.

ORLEN to store carbon dioxide beneath seabed

The ORLEN Group will offer customers new services related to the collection and management of industrial carbon emissions. CO2 storage in Poland, including beneath the Baltic Sea floor, will be essential to sustaining the competitiveness of the country’s industries with high emission costs. The ORLEN Group intends to leverage the experience gained in the Barents Sea to develop these services To that end it has entered into a partnership with Norway’s Horisont Energi AS to explore potential collaboration on a project standing out as one of the most advanced CCS initiatives on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Baltic Power offshore wind farm with conditional investment decision

ORLEN's Supervisory Board has made a conditional investment decision for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, enabling the finalisation of the design phase. The construction phase is planned to start later this year after the completion of the financing process and completion of construction permits. The joint investment of ORLEN and Northland Power at this stage is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland.

ORLEN Group’s investment in Mažeikiai gathers pace

An Italian-designed reactor, which lies at the core of investments in deep crude conversion, has arrived in Lithuania. This key component of the hydrocracking unit will be transported to ORLEN Group’s refinery in Mažeikiai within the next two weeks. The new plant will make it possible to increase the output of high-margin products as early as 2025, thereby enhancing the profitability of the Lithuanian facility and bolstering the energy security of the entire region.

ORLEN to develop new fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf

ORLEN Group and its licence partners have received approval of the Plan for development and operation of Ørn and Alve Nord fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The development will provide the company with approximately 0.4 bcm of natural gas per year at peak production. Alve Nord and Ørn carbon intensity will be more than 3 times lower than the global average for upstream industry. Earlier this month the Norwegian authorities has approved development and production plans for other ORLEN Group fields Fenris and Tyrving as well as for the Yggdrasil area.

ORLEN Group to launch a new solar PV farm

Energa Green Development, an ORLEN Group company, has secured all permits for the first 65 MW phase of the project to construct the Mitra solar photovoltaic farm. Construction work is scheduled to start in the middle of this year. A procedure is currently under way to select the contractor. Mitra is to be built on reclaimed post-mining land in Przykona in the Province of Poznań.

Baltic Power has selected the main contractor for its offshore wind farm service base

Baltic Power has selected the main contractor for the Orlen Group and Northland Power offshore wind farm service base. Its construction will start later this year and will end in 2025. As of 2026, the base will provide service of 76 offshore wind turbines. The amount of energy generated will correspond to electricity consumption in more than 1.5 million households. The amount of energy they generate will be equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 1.5 million households.
