ORLEN is actively expanding its presence in Norway to bolster Poland’s energy security

The ORLEN Group is strengthening its position in Norway and preparing to launch production from new fields. Over the next few months, the Group is set to start production from the Tommeliten Alpha field, which will yield an additional 0.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This is one of nine investment projects undertaken in the past two years to enhance the ORLEN Group’s gas production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The gas extracted from the new fields will be transported to Poland through the Baltic Pipe pipeline, reinforcing the country’s energy security and independence.

Baltic Power offshore wind farm with conditional investment decision

ORLEN's Supervisory Board has made a conditional investment decision for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, enabling the finalisation of the design phase. The construction phase is planned to start later this year after the completion of the financing process and completion of construction permits. The joint investment of ORLEN and Northland Power at this stage is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland.

New wind farms in ORLEN Group

The ORLEN Group has entered into a conditional agreement with EDP Renewables Polska for the purchase of three wind farms in the Wielkopolska region with a total capacity of 142 MW. Additionally, there is an option for photovoltaic development up to 159 MW that can be implemented, inter alia, on the basis of cable pooling. The farms launched in 2021 and 2022 can supply clean energy to as many as c. 240 thousand households annually. The assets being acquired are not only among the most modern, but also the most effective wind farms in Poland. They are powered, among others, by 4.2 MW turbines, one of the largest currently used in Poland. The transaction is expected to be finalised later this year.

ORLEN Group strengthens renewable energy segment

ORLEN Group plans further RES investments in the Poznań Province. Energa Wytwarzanie of the ORLEN Group has signed a preliminary agreement with Greenvolt to purchase a wind farm and four photovoltaic installations. The projects under development have a total capacity of 59 MW and, once the sale is finalised, will join the renewable energy sources of about 700 MW already operating in the ORLEN Group.

Gas carrier “Grażyna Gęsicka” makes first arrival in Poland

The second vessel of the fleet of gas carriers being built for the ORLEN Group has just arrived at the port in Świnoujście with a cargo of liquefied natural gas. The vessel, named “Grażyna Gęsicka”, has delivered some 65,000 tonnes of LNG loaded at the Freeport terminal in the United States. The delivery was made based on a spot market transaction.

New locations for ORLEN Group’s offshore wind projects

The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has announced the results of an offshore wind auction in which it awarded six new project locations on the Polish waters of the Baltic Sea. In the case of five locations, the highest scoring bidder was the ORLEN Group. As a result, the Group’s energy generation potential in offshore wind may soon expand by about 5,200 MW.

The construction of transmission infrastructure for Baltic Power offshore wind farm is commenced

The ORLEN Group and Northland Power have commenced the construction of an onshore substation in the Choczewo municipality. The project will allow the Baltic Power wind farm to receive energy generated offshore. According to the schedule, the farm will start producing zero-carbon energy in 2026.

ORLEN Group invests in advanced and stable power generation

The cornerstone has been laid in Grudziądz for a 560 MW gas-fired power plant. It will be one of the most advanced plants of its kind in Europe, providing electricity to a million households. The use of a highly flexible CCGT unit will ensure that the new plant will work effectively with renewable energy sources, thereby contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions without the risk of disrupting electricity supply to consumers.

ORLEN Group’s company Energa invests in new solar PV capacity in Olsztyn and Poznań regions

Two solar PV farms, PV Wielbark (Olsztyn province) with a capacity of 62 MW, and PV Gryf (Poznań province) with a capacity of 25 MW, have been put into operation by Energa Wytwarzanie, a subsidiary of Energa of the ORLEN Group. The company has invested about PLN 260m in the green energy installations that can power some 43 thousand homes. By the end of this year, the Wielbark farm will be expanded and its capacity raised to 70 MW. Next year, further PV installations with a total capacity of about 68 MW will be developed in the vicinity of the Gryf farm. The projects effectively enable the ORLEN Group to expand its portfolio of renewable energy sources, enhancing Poland’s energy security and bringing the company closer to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
