FLOTA and OPEN DRIVE cards accepted on another section of the A2 motorway

On May 20th 2012, tolls started to be collected on the Świecko–Nowy Tomyśl section of the A2 motorway. PKN ORLEN’s customers can pay tolls for this section using FLOTA and OPEN DRIVE fuel cards offered by the Company.

ShaleScience Conference - quality of shale gas reservoirs

The second international ShaleScience conference has begun in Warsaw. Scientists and experts from around the world are discussing the quality parameters of rock formations containing shale gas, as well as the possibilities of improving the process of hydrocarbon extraction. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has taken part in the opening of the event.

Poland is waiting for shale gas

The Polish people seem to have adopted a future-oriented perspective on shale gas extraction. They generally believe shale gas to be an important natural resource to both their country and the entire region. According to a recent study conducted by SMG/KRC for PKN ORLEN, Poles are also aware of the possible environmental and economic impacts of shale gas exploration and production. Nearly 70% of all respondents believe that the process of shale gas extraction is safe for the environment, while 97% reckon that its development will lead to the creation of new jobs.

PKN ORLEN expands the geographical reach of its fleet cards

PKN ORLEN has prepared for its clients a new international card, OPEN DRIVE. Card holders will be able to make cashless payments at over 2,500 of the PKN ORLEN Group's service stations operating under the ORLEN and BLISKA brands in Poland, the BENZINA and BENZINA PLUS brands in the Czech Republic, the STAR brand in Germany and the ORLEN brand in Lithuania.

PKN ORLEN’s Q1 2012 consolidated financial results

In the first three months of 2012, PKN ORLEN's overall sales volumes were up by 2% year on year, driven chiefly by stronger sales in the retail and petrochemical segments. Also the number of ORLEN’s regular customers, holders of VITAY loyalty cards, increased. Following the record-breaking year of 2011, when PKN ORLEN issued over 930 thousand new VITAY cards, another 107 thousand motorists opted for the VITAY card during the quarter under review. Through all these efforts, and despite the continuing market volatility, the Company delivered solid performance and maintained its safe financial position. Operating profit for Q1 2012 was PLN 939m, while profit measured on a LIFO basis was PLN 201m.

The ORLEN network is ready for EURO 2012

The ORLEN Group has launched “Welcome Fans” and “Get the Ball!” campaigns for football fans. During the European Football Championships, customers will have a possibility to pay in foreign currencies on favourable terms. Thanks to new motorway service areas located along the major route, football fans travelling to Poland from Western Europe will be able to enjoy a comfortable break.

ORLEN sells crude oil stocks valued at PLN 1.2bn

PKN ORLEN and Ashby sp. z o.o. entered into agreements for purchase of crude oil and for accumulation and maintenance of mandatory crude oil stocks. The purchase of crude oil from PKN ORLEN is being financed by The Royal Bank of Scotland N.V., HSBC Bank Plc., Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ufj (Holland) N.V. and Bank Polska Kasa Opieki S.A.

At its meeting on March 14th 2012, the Supervisory Board of PKN ORLEN selected Mr Marek Podstawa (previously the Executive Director for Retail Sales) to serve in the position of Management Board Member for Sales.

At its meeting on March 6th 2012, the Supervisory Board of PKN ORLEN appointed Mr Piotr Chełmiński to the position of Member of the Management Board in charge of Petrochemical Operations. Mr Chełmiński currently serves as President of the Management Board of the Czech-based petrochemical holding company UNIPETROL, an ORLEN Group member.
