PKN ORLEN second quarter 2007 results

Excellent results in the retail and petrochemical segments and from the cost reduction programme in Q2 2007 have contributed to the ORLEN Group's very good results. Also, for the first time since the disruption in processing capacity due to fire damage, Mazeikiu Nafta generated a positive operating result. PKN ORLEN's EBITDA was PLN 1 874m which, compared to the same period last year, represents a 14% increase. The results of the OPTIMA program were 200% better than in Q2 2006.

Mazeikiu Nafta to Produce Cleaner Gasoline

AB Mazeikiu Nafta has built a FCC Gasoline Hydrotreatment Unit which will enable the Company to reduce the sulphur content in its gasoline five-fold. The new 135 million Lita unit will allow gasoline to be desulphurized up to the level which will be required and applicable by the EU from 2009.

Contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

PKN ORLEN has today entered into an Agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries regarding a technical project and the delivery of raw materials, facilities and technical assistance for the construction of a PTA plant in Wloclawek (Poland). The Agreement was concluded on the basis of a MEC license.

New solvents plant in Jedlicze Refinery

Rafineria Jedlicze, an ORLEN Group company, has today launched its unique scale plant for the production of organic solvents in Poland. The investment of PLN 27m marks the first and key stage of Rafineria Jedlicze’s strategy for the period to 2017.

CHEMOPETROL, UNIPETROL RAFINÉRIE and UNIPETROL RPA will merge into a single company, UNIPETROL RPA

Praha, 1st of August 07 – The amalgamation of CHEMOPETROL, UNIPETROL RAFINÉRIE and UNIPETROL RPA by way of merger into UNIPETROL RPA is the logical continuation of the implementation of a new management model, which the UNIPETROL group has been gradually deploying since the beginning of the year. The main advantages of the merger include simplified flows of intermediate products within a single company and better use of existing synergies. Another positive effect is in more efficient internal sourcing and the sale of its own products within the Group. Last but not least, the change will allow for better control over the entire production and sales chain, from feedstock purchase to customer care. “The merger will result in a single compact unit with a simplified organisational, personnel, administrative and logical structure of activities,” says Petr Sosík, one of UNIPETROL RPA’s executives, and adds: “This change will reduce administrative expenses and increase the prosperity of the entire Unipetrol group.”

PKN ORLEN signs crude oil supply contract with KD Petrotrade FZE

The Board of PKN ORLEN has today signed a long-term contract for the supply of 2.4m tonnes of crude oil per year with KD Petrotrade FZE. In doing so, PKN ORLEN has achieved the planned model supply structure, which provides for acquiring approximately 82% of crude oil in term contracts.

PKN ORLEN joined the international group of signatories of the Responsible Care Charter

Piotr Kownacki, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN, signed the Declaration of Support to the Responsible Care Global Charter. In this way, the Company joined the group of chemical companies and associations from all parts of the world which undertake to act in accordance with the rules of sustainable development and harmonise their actions under the Responsible Care program on a global level.

New CEO for Mažeikiu Nafta

The Board of Mažeikiu Nafta has today appointed Marek Mroczkowski as the new CEO of Mažeikiu Nafta. Mr Mroczkowski will replace the current Managing Director, Paul Nelson English, and will take up his new post on July 2, 2007.
