PKN ORLEN to increase purchases of alternative crudes

PKN ORLEN has made arrangements to secure crude oil supplies for the needs of its refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. The feedstock is being supplied to these locations on an ongoing basis. When supplies from across Poland’s eastern border are discontinued, crude oil will be sourced from alternative directions. For example, PKN ORLEN has reached an agreement with Saudi Aramco to increase the volume of deliveries by five tankers. In addition, supplies of crude grades from the North Sea region have been secured for ORLEN Lietuva. The continuity of the ORLEN Group’s refining operations in Europe is and will remain unthreatened. This is mainly a result of consistent diversification efforts pursued by the Group for the past four years. Not so long ago, in 2013, as much as 98% of the crude feedstock processed in Płock was REBCO oil sourced from Russia. Currently, the grade accounts for only about 50% of the plant’s crude slate, the balance coming from Saudi Arabia, the US and West Africa, among other directions.

The ORLEN Group refineries receive oil from alternative supply directions

The ORLEN Group has imported about 130,000 tonnes of Johan Sverdrup crude sourced from Norwegian fields in the North Sea. A tanker carrying the cargo has just arrived at Naftoport in Gdańsk. The ORLEN Group has also made agreements to increase the volumes of oil imported from other non-Russian sources. The measures taken fully ensure continuity of production at the ORLEN Group’s refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. They are another step in the process of oil supply diversification pursued by the Company over the past four years. As recently as 2013, a whopping 98% of the crude feedstock processed in Płock was REBCO oil sourced from Russia. Currently, the grade accounts for only about 50% of the plant’s crude slate, the balance coming from Saudi Arabia, the US and West Africa, and Norway.

ORLEN guarantees stable oil and fuel supplies

The ORLEN Group has not made any spot purchases of Russian Urals crude since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Over the period, 28 tankers with alternative crude grades have already been ordered for the Group’s refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. Cutting reliance on crude supplies from the east was enabled by the consistent supply diversification efforts implemented over the past four years. Also, PKN ORLEN will adhere to all internationally imposed sanctions.

PKN ORLEN launches its own venture capital fund

PKN ORLEN formed Poland’s largest corporate venture capital fund, which is to invest around EUR 100 million (PLN 500 million) over ten years in innovative projects. The result will be a dynamic acceleration of PKN ORLEN’s transition, driven by commercialisation of advanced technologies and deployment of new business models. ORLEN VC’s investments will allow PKN ORLEN to directly and indirectly enter into new promising business partnerships that will boost its international position and to develop them in collaboration with the best teams.

PKN ORLEN set to strengthen its international position

PKN ORLEN has maintained a consistent focus on strengthening its position in Central and Eastern Europe, as envisaged by the ORLEN2030 strategy. As part of its geographic expansion on what are seen as the key growth markets for the entire ORLEN Group, it will build a fuel retail chain in Hungary, which will position PKN ORLEN among the region’s leading players. Topics discussed during a recent meeting between the President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN Daniel Obajtek and the Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orbán included the strategic aspects of energy security in this part of Europe.

ORLEN completes its rebranding in the Slovak market

The size of the company’s retail network in Slovakia has almost doubled this year, with all 90 stations now operating under the ORLEN brand. Following this successful rebranding, ORLEN is going to focus on enhancing its non-fuel product range and advancing the distribution of alternative fuels, which will include launching the first electric vehicle charging points. The plans also provide for further growth in the number of service stations.

ORLEN is actively expanding its presence in Norway to bolster Poland’s energy security

The ORLEN Group is strengthening its position in Norway and preparing to launch production from new fields. Over the next few months, the Group is set to start production from the Tommeliten Alpha field, which will yield an additional 0.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This is one of nine investment projects undertaken in the past two years to enhance the ORLEN Group’s gas production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The gas extracted from the new fields will be transported to Poland through the Baltic Pipe pipeline, reinforcing the country’s energy security and independence.
