About the company

Ethical ORLEN

For the eighth time ORLEN has been included in the elite group of the most ethical companies in the world. We are the only company from Poland and the region of Central and Eastern Europe, and the only European company from the Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Sources sector which may boast the distinction of The World's Most Ethical Company 2021. This underlines ORLEN's commitment to the promotion of ethical business practices. For years we have maintained the highest global ethical standards because we base all our activities on our fundamental values: Odpowiedzialność (Responsibility), Rozwój (Development), Ludzie (People), Energia (Energy), Niezawodność (Reliability).

The award is granted by an international independent panel of experts of Ethisphere Institute - the U.S. based world leader in defining and promoting ethical standards in business. This year's ranking of the world's most ethical companies includes 135 companies representing 47 industries from 22 countries. The title of the award relates to ethics, however, a company applying for it must also demonstrate effective and proven actions in areas such as

  • Corporate governance
  • Compliance and risk management
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Sustainable development
  • Social responsibility
  • Supplier verification
  • Corruption countermeasures

The Ethisphere Institute pays particular attention to value-based organizational culture building activities and evaluates people management practices, including:

  • Equality in employment
  • Countering mobbing, discrimination and harassment
  • Training and communication programmes
  • Employee development programmes
  • Employee involvement promotion activities
  • Business ethics structures, processes and documentation

In view of the global coronavirus pandemic, this year's certification process placed particular emphasis on demonstrating the companies' genuine activities in the area of social responsibility. Total outlays of ORLEN and ORLEN Group companies on activities related to counteracting the pandemic amounted to over PLN 120 million and covered, among others:

  • Production of liquid disinfectant
  • Subsidizing the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals and rescue services
  • Reduction of fuel prices
  • Setting up temporary hospitals in Płock and Ostrołęka together with the Polish government.

“The year 2020 required tackling tough challenges, but despite this we have recognised companies that are leading the way in earning stakeholder trust through resilience and a commitment to ethics and integrity in the conduct of business. Companies awarded the title of “The World's Most Ethical Company” continue to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the highest values and make a positive impact on the communities they serve. I congratulate all ORLEN employees on winning the title," said Timothy Erblich, CEO of Ethisphere Institute.
