Power grid modernisation plan

Energa Group, part of the ORLEN Group, has announced a landmark investment of PLN 40 billion by 2035 to modernise, expand and digitise its power grid infrastructure. Why is the initiative so important? Because a smart and flexible infrastructure – including power distribution networks – is a fundamental pillar of a fair and effective energy transition.

Poland’s power generation sector is becoming increasingly decentralised with the growing role of renewable sources. A significant share of new generation capacity is emerging in northern regions of the country. This is where we are developing four offshore wind farms, expanding gas-fired power generation, and advancing onshore renewable projects.  In northern and central Poland, we currently operate nearly 200 thousand kilometres of power distribution lines, serving 3.5 million customers daily. We plan to invest PLN 40 billion in modernising and expanding these networks, with over PLN 7.5 billion already secured through the National Recovery Plan (KPO).

Under this ambitious grid modernisation plan, we will:

build 11 thousand kilometres of new power lines, primarily underground, providing 350 thousand new customers with access to a modern, reliable grid;

upgrade nearly 10 thousand kilometres of existing lines, enhancing grid reliability and resilience against weather-induced disruptions for current customers;

connect 9 GW of new renewable capacity, along with energy storage facilities, ultimately reducing electricity prices for customers thanks to low variable costs of renewable generation

integrate up to 200 thousand new prosumers, creating more opportunities for customers to generate their own electricity;

enhance power supply capacity of the economic zones in Płock, Pruszcz Gdański, Słupsk and Koszalin, preparing them to accommodate large-scale electricity consumers

install 1,600 publicly accessible EV charging stations, including along the A1 and S7 routes, and support e-mobility uptake in public transport;

support the development of Poland’s port and terminal infrastructure for improved fuel and gas logistics.

We are building a secure and modern energy future for Poland!

The investment projects funded through the National Recovery Plan will be implemented by Energa Operator.
