Exploration Activities

Currently, ORLEN S.A. operates two exploration licenses: Kirthar (70% working interest), covering 321 km², and Baran (59% working interest), covering 2,475 km². Both licenses are located in the Kirthar Fold Belt on the border of the Sindh and Balochistan provinces. In addition, the company holds a 25% non‑operated interest in the Musakhel exploration license, covering 2,176 km² in the Sulaiman Fold Belt in the northern part of Balochistan.

Exploration activities conducted to date on the Kirthar license have led to the discovery of three natural gas fields: Rehman in 2009, Rizq in 2015 and Rayyan in 2023. In 2025, another gas accumulation—Rafat—was identified and is currently undergoing assessment to determine its commercial potential.

The results achieved so far on the Kirthar license likely do not exhaust its resource potential. Ongoing geological studies are focused on preparing for the drilling of a new exploration well aimed at confirming an additional prospect located southwest of the Rayyan field.

In parallel with operations on the Kirthar license, ORLEN S.A. is implementing a seismic acquisition program on the adjacent Baran license. In 2025, the company completed a 2D seismic survey totaling 382 linear kilometers, designed to confirm exploration targets in the northern part of the block. Interpretation results are scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. Also in 2025, acquisition began on a 3D seismic survey covering 581 km², intended to document and confirm the subsurface structure in the southern part of the Baran block. Completion of these works is expected by mid‑2026.

Following the seismic programs, exploration drilling is planned.

On the Musakhel license, the seismic phase has been completed, resulting in the identification of several structural highs. In 2025, the licence partners decided to drill the first exploration well on the Bhuj prospect, with drilling scheduled to commence at the end of 2026.

In addition to activities carried out on its existing exploration licences, the Branch is actively seeking new, attractive opportunities to further expand its project portfolio.
