Start of turbine-set TG-6

Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN S.A. (PKN ORLEN), Central Europe’s largest downstream oil company, announces today the completion of the extension of the power station at their main refinery in Plock. The start of turbine-set TG-6 (TG-6) allows a power increase from 275 MW to 345 MW. Total cost of the new turbine is PLN 90 m.

This outlay will be returned in four to five years by cheaper energy and heat purchase. As a result of the increased power output of the Power Station in Plock, PKN ORLEN S.A. will reduce external purchases of energy by 70 %. Costs of internal power production will be competitive when compared to outside sources. The TG-6 70 MW condensing turbine is able to produce electric energy and heat at the same time according to requirements. It improves the energy and heat independence of PKN ORLEN’s main refinery in Plock.

Commenting on the announcement Mr Czeslaw Budaj, Production Director at PKN ORLEN said that, “Due to the operating scale and continuous technological processes at PKN ORLEN, stable energy supplies are vital to the Company. The Extension of the Power Plant and the introduction of TG-6 considerably increases stability and secures PKN ORLEN’s energy and heat independence.”
