ORLEN Group integrates logistics services
Polish and Czech rail and transport companies within the ORLEN Group have finalised the consolidation process. ORLEN Kolej has acquired ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava, a company specialising in the transport of chemical products, while ORLEN Transport has taken over Petrotrans, one of the largest road fuel carriers in the Czech Republic. The transactions will strengthen the Group’s transport security in the refining and petrochemical sectors and unlock synergies in logistics, reinforcing the Group’s position in Europe.
“We are committed to operational excellence and enhancing the efficiency of our processes. We are consolidating and optimising our logistics operations, fully leveraging the potential of the Czech companies, including the expertise of their employees. The transactions are essential for the further development of the ORLEN Group’s transport services and for the delivery of our strategic objectives, including the decarbonisation of transport operations. Through the integration of transport competencies, we are working to harness the full potential of the Group, enabling further growth and delivering tangible benefits not only for the Group but also for its shareholders and customers,” said Ireneusz Sitarski, Vice President of the ORLEN Management Board for Wholesale and Logistics.
The consolidation of logistics services within the ORLEN Group was carried out through the acquisition of 100% of the shares in ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava by ORLEN Kolej and 100% of the shares in Petrotrans by ORLEN Transport. The Czech companies will remain separate legal entities, continuing to operate under their existing brands.
“The integration of Polish and Czech rail and road transport assets will enable the implementation of a unified logistics strategy across the ORLEN Group, including process standardisation. The resulting synergies of this intra-group transaction will ensure more efficient management of shared resources, driving cost optimisation, greater operational flexibility, and a stronger competitive position for the Group both locally and internationally. By joining forces, we are gaining new opportunities, becoming more competitive, and unlocking the full potential of cross-border cooperation,” said Mariusz Wnuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group.
ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava’s business comprises rail freight transport, siding operations, the provision of both owned and leased wagons, and wagon cleaning services. ORLEN Kolej has a similar profile and is one of Poland’s leading rail freight operators, transporting around 17 million tonnes of cargo annually. It operates a modern fleet and extensive technical facilities. Active in Poland and Germany, and working with business partners across Europe, ORLEN Kolej provides comprehensive international rail transport services. Following the acquisition of the Czech company, ORLEN Kolej will operate more than 200 locomotives and handle around 20 million tonnes of cargo annually.
ORLEN Transport is the market leader in fuel transport in Poland. In 2024, the company carried more than 12 million cubic metres of liquid fuels. It also provides LPG and hydrogen transport services, supported by a modern fleet of 375 transport units. With the acquisition of Petrotrans in the Czech Republic, ORLEN Transport has added over 60 transport units, expanding its footprint in the Czech market and increasing its fuel transport capacity by more than 1.5 million cubic metres annually.
