ORLEN forges new Baltic energy alliance

ORLEN has joined forces with 13 energy companies and organisations from Northern and Central Europe to establish the Baltic Energy Initiative. The partners will work together on projects designed to strengthen energy security and competitiveness across the region, covering offshore wind, LNG and bioLNG, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), nuclear power and small modular reactors (SMRs).

ORLEN brings three new Norwegian Sea fields on stream

ORLEN Upstream Norway, together with its license partners, has started gas production from the Idun Nord field in the Norwegian Sea. Over the coming weeks, the company will bring two additional fields, Alve Nord and Ørn, on stream. All three fields are located in the Skarv area, one of ORLEN’s key production hubs in Norway. The three-field development is expected to add approximately 30 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) to ORLEN’s production portfolio, most of which is natural gas.

ORLEN secures up to one-quarter of its crude oil needs

ORLEN has signed a three-year agreement with Equinor for crude oil supplies from the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Deliveries will begin in September, and the contracted volume may reach over 9 million tonnes per year, equivalent to up to one-quarter of the ORLEN Group’s annual crude oil demand. The crude will be delivered to refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, strengthening supply security across the region.

ORLEN certified for biofuel component production at Płock refinery

ORLEN has secured certification under the Oil and Gas Institute’s KZR INiG sustainability scheme for the co-hydrotreatment of bio-based feedstocks at its Płock refinery. The certification confirms that the renewable feedstocks used by the Company and their processing comply with the European Union’s requirements. This enables ORLEN to expand the production of biofuel components and count them towards the EU’s renewable energy targets for transport. The Company currently has the capacity to process approximately 100,000 tonnes of bio-based feedstocks annually, with planned upgrades set to increase this to around 150,000 tonnes.

ORLEN Group advances regional energy transition as solar PV farm at Mažeikiai refinery comes online

The ORLEN Group has brought a solar PV farm at its Mažeikiai refinery online. The 42.2 MW facility is expected to generate about 45 GWh of electricity a year for ORLEN Lietuva, helping to cut the refinery’s operating costs and increase the share of renewables in the Group’s asset portfolio. Białystok-based Electrum delivered the project, bringing Polish expertise to an investment that strengthens the refinery’s energy security.

ORLEN opens strategic marine terminal on the Martwa Wisła River in Gdańsk, built largely by Polish companies

ORLEN has opened a Marine Transshipment Terminal at its Gdańsk refinery, marking the completion of one of the Group’s key logistics projects. The facility enables refinery products and feedstocks to be transferred directly between the refinery and tankers, eliminating the need for intermediate transport. Designed to handle more than 1.8 million tonnes of cargo annually, the terminal has already received its first vessels, which loaded marine gas oil (MGO) from the refinery and delivered FAME for use in biofuel production. The project also has a strong Polish component, having been delivered largely by domestic companies.

ORLEN steps up renewables investment with new hybrid solar and wind project

The ORLEN Group has completed the acquisition of a 216 MW hybrid renewable energy project. The complex, combining a solar PV farm with a wind farm, will be developed in the municipality of Kazimierz Biskupi in the Greater Poland region. It is expected to generate approximately 315 GWh of electricity a year, enough to meet the needs of nearly 143,000 households. Polish companies will deliver the project using cable pooling, which allows solar and wind installations to share grid connection infrastructure more efficiently.
