ORLEN steps up renewables investment with new hybrid solar and wind project

“With this acquisition, we are adding a 216 MW project to ORLEN’s renewable energy portfolio. Combining solar and wind generation will allow it to make more efficient use of the available grid connection infrastructure. This is another tangible outcome of our investment programme. We are developing assets that support Poland’s energy transition while engaging Polish companies and strengthening domestic expertise in the modern energy sector,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the ORLEN Management Board.

ORLEN New Power, the Group company responsible for developing and managing onshore renewable energy assets, has acquired two special-purpose vehicles from Polish developers ONDE and Neo Energy Group. The companies hold the rights to build a 180 MW solar PV farm and a 36 MW wind farm. Both partners will remain involved in delivering the project. ONDE will act as general contractor, while Neo Energy Group will manage the construction process. Energa Green Development will oversee the construction process on behalf of the ORLEN Group.

The wind farm will comprise nine Vestas V136 turbines, each with a capacity of 4 MW. Under the cable pooling model, the solar and wind farms will share infrastructure, enabling more efficient use of the available grid connection capacity.

Integrating solar and wind generation will improve the utilisation of grid infrastructure while enhancing the ORLEN Group’s ability to create value,” said Tadeusz Zborowski, Vice President of the Management Board, Chief Financial Officer at ORLEN New Power.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026. First energisation is expected in early 2028, with full commercial operations due to start in the second quarter of that year.

Kazimierz Biskupi will be another ORLEN Group project based on the hybrid renewables model already proven at the Kleczew Solar & Wind facility in the Greater Poland region. Located approximately 8 km apart, the two projects will form one of Poland’s largest onshore renewable energy clusters, with a combined capacity of 485 MW. 

Combining solar and wind farms enables more efficient use of grid connection infrastructure, reduces the impact of weather variability on electricity generation and supports more stable operation of the renewable generation assets. Concentrating generation assets in a single area will also create additional operational synergies, particularly in asset management and maintenance cost optimisation, further enhancing the efficiency of the ORLEN Group’s new renewable energy projects.
