ORLEN moves to the next level of digitalisation with Amazon Web Services

The ORLEN Group has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its digital and energy transformation. The agreement centres on the use of modern cloud computing technologies to improve operational efficiency, increase flexibility and speed up the rollout of innovation across the organisation.

‘The cooperation marks another step in building ORLEN as a modern, digital organisation. ORLEN is an important partner for leading global technology companies. We invest in solutions that enhance our business efficiency, accelerate innovation and strengthen the digital security of the entire Group. Digital transformation is a key foundation of our competitiveness and growth,’ said Robert Soszyński, Vice President of the ORLEN Management Board, Operations.

The collaboration envisages the use of AWS’s global infrastructure and capabilities wherever they deliver clear business, technical and operational value. This includes migrating IT systems to the cloud and developing new solutions in a cloud-native architecture, which means designing applications from the outset for the cloud so they are easily scalable, resilient and quick to deploy.

‘There is an incredible opportunity around AI in Poland, and ORLEN Group, as one of the largest energy companies in Europe, has the scale and commitment to deliver a remarkable digital transformation. Our support is not just about technology — it is also an investment in the digital skills of the people who will implement and develop it. We are proud to support ORLEN Group on this journey,’ says Tanuja Randery, Vice President and Managing Director of Amazon Web Services for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

ORLEN will work with AWS to deploy and use advanced cloud technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics. It will also draw on specialised industry solutions from certified independent software vendors (ISVs) available in AWS Marketplace, supporting key areas of its operations, from upstream and downstream segments, through energy, to consumers and products. These solutions are intended to speed up the deployment of new features and better align technology with the specific needs of individual business segments.

‘A key objective of our cooperation with AWS is to strengthen our technological flexibility and secure access to ready-made, advanced solutions. Developing our IT environment in a multi-cloud model will allow ORLEN to migrate systems efficiently and select the best technologies available on the market,’ said Michał Furman, Executive Director for Digital Transformation and IT at ORLEN.

The collaboration with AWS also provides access to advanced global infrastructure, ensuring high system reliability, scalability and security. This is particularly important for projects requiring substantial computing power and those carried out on an international scale.

A key element of the cooperation is developing the capabilities of ORLEN Group’s employees. They will benefit from AWS training programmes, certifications and technology workshops, enabling more effective design, deployment and maintenance of modern cloud solutions.
