ORLEN S.A. – Upstream Polska Borehole Mining Rescue Station Branch in Kraków is a specialised unit  responsible for mining rescue operations, established by ORLEN S.A.

Under the regulations governing mining rescue services, the role of rescue units is to provide immediate assistance in the event of a threat to the life or health of employees of a mining facility or other persons present on site, as well as in situations posing a threat to the safety of mining operations including in particular: fires, gas explosions or uncontrolled flows of reservoir fluids from wells , the release of hydrogen sulphide, mechanical or energy‑related failures, and  threats to public safety.

The activities of the Upstream Polska Well Mining Rescue Station Branch in Kraków fall into three categories:

  • Intervention activities – participation in rescue operations, in particular during the suppression of uncontrolled flows of reservoir fluids from wells and restoring pressure equilibrium in the wellbore.
  • Preventive activities – involving mining rescue services in preventive activities aimed at avoiding direct threats to employee safety or to the safe operation of a mining facility.
  • Training activities – providing mining rescue training to rescue operation commanders, rescue team leaders, rescue team members, as well as managerial and supervisory staff of mining facilities who are not members of rescue teams. The unit also conducts other specialisedmining rescue courses.
