Upstream Polska Zielona Góra Branch

We are the largest supplier of natural gas to the domestic market, and the production of our Branch meets more than 15% of the country’s total natural gas demand. The future of the Branch is linked to supplying gas to the transmission system and its use  in the power sector, as well as to the development of new crude oil and natural gas fields.

Our production facilities are grouped into three production centres:

• Gorzów Wielkopolski – Drezdenko,
• Grodzisk Wielkopolski,
• Ostrów Wielkopolski.

 (Wierzchowice, Daszewo and Bonikowo), the Grodzisk Nitrogen Removal Plant, and crude oil dispatch facilities: the Barnówko Dispatch Point and the Wierzbno Export Terminal.

Our history dates back to  the intensive exploration of crude oil and natural gas deposits carried out in the Polish Lowlands in the early 1960s . The natural gas discovered at that time contained more than 40% nitrogen, and also 0.3% to 0.4% helium, in addition to methane. To eliminate the unwanted ballast gas—namely nitrogen—and consequently obtain high-methane fuel gas, a natural gas denitrification installation with simultaneous helium recovery and liquefaction was built in Odolanów in the 1970s.

As a Branch, we are responsible for:

• producing high‑methane gas (Group E) from nitrogen‑rich natural gas originating from the mines of the Zielona Góra Branch, therby helping maintain optimal production from those fields despite fluctuations in end-user demand for nitrogen‑rich gas;
• compressing high‑methane gas and transmitting it to the national gas transmission network or underground gas storage facilities;
• recovering helium from nitrogen‑rich natural gas, purifying it, and liquefying it;
• supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG).
