We are constructing Baltic Power: the first offshore wind farm on the Baltic Sea and a joint project between the ORLEN Group and Northland Power.
With a capacity of ~1.2 GW and an estimated annual output of around 4 TWh, the farm will ultimately supply clean energy to over 1.5 million households, equivalent to 3% of the country’s electricity demand. The upper sections of 52 of the farm’s 76 turbine towers are made from steel containing 15 per cent recycled material, which, according to the supplier of the farm’s structural components, is produced mainly from recycled materials remelted in electric furnaces powered by renewable wind energy. This reduces CO2 emmissions per kilogramme of steel by 66% when compared to conventional steel. The use of this solution can reduce the carbon footprint over the turbine’s entire life cycle by 10%.
