SAF aviation fuels

We supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to selected airports in Poland, Lithuania and Prague in the Czech Republic.

Within the ORLEN Group, we are developing our operations in line with the principles of the circular economy, including through the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This fuel is produced from biogenic waste and renewable raw materials (e.g. used cooking oil, municipal, industrial, agricultural and forestry waste).

According to FuelsEurope, the use of pure SAF (i.e. without blending with other types of fuel) enables a reduction of up to 80% in emissions over the entire life cycle compared with conventional aviation fuel. When blended with conventional jet fuel, it remains fully compatible with current engines, without the need for any modifications.

The ORLEN Group is expanding its range of SAF aviation fuel. Following the introduction of this fuel at domestic airports in Warsaw, Kraków and Katowice, as well as at Prague Airport in the Czech Republic, the company began supplying the Baltic markets in 2025. Thanks to investments in the Mažeikiai refinery, ORLEN Lietuva has been supplying SAF aviation fuel at airports in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn since mid-September 2025.

At the same time, the ORLEN Group is focusing on research and development in the field of innovative SAF production. ORLEN VC has established a partnership with OXCCU, a company developing technology for the production of synthetic SAF fuels supported by an innovative catalyst. This technology also enables the processing of mixtures of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen, meaning it can also be used to produce lower-emission aviation fuel from biomass waste.
