Circular economy initiatives

Circular optimisation of production

We are implementing a long-term programme to improve energy efficiency across our Downstream assets.

We are implementing resource management mechanisms aimed at optimising production processes and minimising our environmental impact.

In line with ORLEN Group 2035 Strategy, the expected outcome of these energy efficiency improvements by 2035 will be a reduction in emissions of approximately 1.3 million tonnes of CO₂e.

The systematic implementation of a comprehensive energy efficiency programme across Downstream assets is intended to reduce the energy and resource intensity of production. By optimising energy consumption, a reduction in emissions of approximately 0.5 million tonnes of CO₂e was achieved by 2025. As part of the ORLEN Group 2035 Strategy, over 100 circular economy projects have been planned or are currently being implemented across the entire ORLEN Group.

In 2025, ORLEN Unipetrol completed a project involving the recovery of waste heat from flue gases, which was used to generate process steam required for the technological processes at the Kralupy refinery.

At one of the installations at the Płock Production Plant, an investment project is planned in line with the ORLEN Group 2035 Strategy’s timeframe, designed to enable the use of low-temperature heat from the installation for cooling, thereby replacing the freon-based refrigeration system.
