Protection of pollinators in an urban area
ORLEN is working jointly on a project to protect pollinators and biodiversity with the Mazovian Agricultural Advisory Centre (MODR) in Płock, which is adjacent to the manufacturing facility and the New Chemistry investment site.
The Company is providing the MODR personnel with green areas located right next to the refinery to set up hives and keep more than 1 million bees. The neighbours have been co-operating since 2017. The honey from the apiary, located near the Płock plant, is harvested annually by specialists. An internationally accredited testing laboratory has given it a positive assessment.
Tests confirm that the honey meets European standards in terms of physicochemical properties. Bee products also serve as research material for environmental impact analysis in suburban areas. The co-operation also involves organizing educational conferences on pollinators, aimed at the younger generation as well as farmers and beekeepers. The co-operation concept also promotes the idea of sustainable development, targeting young people, opinion leaders and teaching staff.
