Azeri Light crude in ORLEN
In March 2008 the Plock refinery will begin processing the new brand of Azeri Light crude oil. It is expected to offset a drop in diesel production after the planned overhaul of the diesel hydrodesulphurization plant VI.
The processing of new, alternative brands of crude follows a country-scale unique, innovative and in-depth analyses conducted by the specialists in the Plock refinery. 2,500 types of crude were researched in the first stage to select 64 of the technologically and economically most suitable oils for the ORLEN Group’s refineries in Plock (Poland), Litvinov (Czech Republic) and Mazeikiu (Lithuania).
The study in Plock confirmed that Russian blends are still the most efficient crude types for the refinery, however it also pointed to some other blends of comparable usability.
Based on the analysis, PKN ORLEN has purchased the first volumes of the Azeri Light to be processed in March. The new brand will allow bigger volumes of diesel yield.
PKN ORLEN processes mainly Russian Ural and Rebco blends that are most suitable for the Plock distillation units. Occasionally, the Company processes crude for the North Sea.
