Wireless web at ORLEN petrol stations in Poland
Thanks to the joint efforts of PKN ORLEN and Polkomtel, a mobile telephony operator, drivers visiting ORLEN petrol stations in Pszczolki (road Lodz – Gdansk), Maldyty (Warsaw – Gdansk) and Jaworzno (A4 motorway) are offered wireless access to the world wide web network.
From today onwards every visitor to any of the three ORLEN outlets can benefit from free of charge access to the web. This pioneering project is aimed at testing customers’ interest in the new service as well as its future commercial potential for PKN ORLEN and Polkomtel. The facility is provided in WLAN technology (wireless local-area network, also referred to as LAWN) using high-frequency radio waves. In order to reach the web via so called hot-spots one needs to meet standard hardware requirements typical for such connections. Each petrol station offering the facility is properly labeled with information on the WLAN technology.
