PKN ORLEN refinery the best in Central & Eastern Europe

Participants in the Central & Eastern European Refining and Petrochemicals 8th Annual Roundtable, organised by the British World Refining Association, have decided that the best refinery in 2005 is the Petrochemical Complex in Plock. The decision was based on considerations including corporate strategy, infrastructure, technology innovation and plans for the future.

The statuette "The Best Refinery in 2005 " was given to Mr. Igor Chalupec, CEO of PKN ORLEN, by Claire Pallen, CEO of the World Refining Association.

"The award for the best refinery in 2005 is a great honour for PKN ORLEN. It's all the more prestigious because was awarded to us by leading specialists in our own business. This success also reflects the hard work of all our employees. Special thanks are due to Mr. Hartmuta Lueker'a, CEO Basell ORLEN Polyolefins, and Mr. Czesław Bugaj, Vice General Director of Operational Systems, whose engagement and knowledge were very important factors in allowing us to achieve our technological goals" - said Igor Chalupec, CEO of PKN ORLEN.

At last year's conference in Prague this award was given to Rijeka Refinery INA INDUSTRIJA NAFTE.

The Central & Eastern European Refining & Petrochemicals 8th Annual Roundtable was held in Warsaw between October 18 - 20.

During the Roundtable, there were discussions covering many aspects of current issues of importance to the petrochemical industry: refinery restructuring, new technologies, and current trends in Central & Eastern Europe. In the conference, an important contribution was the presentation made by the CEO's of PKN ORLEN and UNIPETROL. Mr. Igor Chalupec, CEO of PKN ORLEN, presented the Group's strategy for the period to 2009, and its plans for expansion into markets abroad. He was also the moderator of a special session dedicated to new strategies in the region. The participants in this session were: Phil Stephenson (Rompetrol Group), Ivan Souček (Česka Rafinerska), Hartmut Lueker (Basell ORLEN Polyolefins), Srdjan Popov (Director NIS-OIL Renifery, Novi Sad), and Wieslaw Skwarko from Nafta Polska.
