PKN ORLEN joined the international group of signatories of the Responsible Care Charter

Piotr Kownacki, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN, signed the Declaration of Support to the Responsible Care Global Charter. In this way, the Company joined the group of chemical companies and associations from all parts of the world which undertake to act in accordance with the rules of sustainable development and harmonise their actions under the Responsible Care program on a global level.

The Responsible Care Global Charter is the result of work of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). Its purpose is to adapt the Responsible Care Program to reality and requirements set for the chemical industry in the 21st century. The recommendations contained in the Charter helped to expand the program guidelines that have been implemented for twenty years. The Charter was established in February 2006 during the conference of the United Nations devoted to matters related to chemicals management.

The Responsible Care Program was inaugurated in 1984 as a global initiative of the chemical industry which put chemical plants under an obligation to co-operate for the benefit of systematic improvement of safety, health and environment protection. Now this program is implemented by companies which produce in total more than 87% of the global chemical output.

In Poland the program was introduced in 1992, and the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry is responsible for its co-ordination. PKN ORLEN S.A. has been its member for ten years and since the beginning it has declared actions for the reduction of harmful impact of its products on the environment, improvement of safety and health protection of its employees and the local community.

Other participants of the program are companies from the Capital Group of the Company: ANWIL S.A., IKS SOLINO S.A., Basell ORLEN Polyolefins Sp. z o.o., ORLEN Asfalt Sp. z o.o. and ORLEN Eko Sp. z o.o.
