PKN ORLEN gets prepared for bio-fuels

PKN ORLEN has closed a tender for supplies of bio-ethanol for petroleum production in 2008. The final stage of the tender was performed at the web auction which secured full transparency of the procedure.

The decisive elements of the auction were formulas based on European transaction quotations at ICIS Rotterdam, the manufacturers’ prices and transportations costs.

PKN ORLEN addressed its offer to several entities in Poland and the EU with the required valid certificates. The final stage of the tender included 11 companies from Poland, one from Germany, the Czech Republic and Lithuania.

The winners of the tender are German CropEnergies AG and Polish PHP Wawrzyniak. The two companies are to secure 47 million litres of ethanol which account for almost 80 per cent of PKN ORLEN’s requirements planned for 1H2008. The remaining 20 per cent will be supplemented by PG Surwin, Uni-malew (both from Poland) and Agroetanol TTD from the Czech Republic.

The contracts have been signed for execution for the period between January – June 2008.
