Majority of bio-ethanol from Polish suppliers

PKN ORLEN has adjudicated on a tender for supplies of bio-ethanol in Q2 2008. The majority of volumes will be secured from Polish suppliers. All bio-ethanol suppliers have been selected via an internet auction.

The invitation to tender was sent to all Polish and EU producers holding the necessary certificates. The key criterion, in addition to the formal and quality requirements, was price and supply terms and conditions.

In order to diversify bio-ethanol sources PKN ORLEN chose eight contractors which offered most favourable conditions: Hungrana KFT (Hungary), CropEnergies AG (Germany) as well as Bioetanol AEG, PHP Wiesław Wawrzyniak, PG Surwin, Uni-Malew, Cargill, Go Germania Oil Polska (Poland).

The companies will secure the almost 74.5 million litres required in Q2, and Polish produced bio-ethanol will account for 55% of total volume. PKN ORLEN uses bio-ethanol for petroleum blending and as a raw material for the production of ETBE.
