PKN ORLEN – Partner of the 20th Economic Forum in Krynica
During this year’s edition of the Forum, PKN ORLEN will host a panel discussion entitled “Strategic Implications and International Significance of Shale Gas Production in Poland”. The experts’ debate on the regional and international significance of the discovery of unconventional gas reserves in Poland will be held on September 9th, the second day of the Forum.
For 20 years now, the Economic Forum in Krynica has been a venue of debate for world-class political, social, economic and cultural experts and leaders. This year’s discussions held as part of the anniversary edition of the Forum will focus on the most important issues related to the first year in which the Lisbon Treaty is in force. The participants of the Forum meetings will discuss how the Treaty’s provisions are translated into real solutions both in the entire EU and CEE. The leading theme of this year’s Forum is “Europe after the Lisbon Treaty – Strategies for the Future”.
PKN ORLEN will host a panel discussion entitled “Strategic Implications and International Significance of Shale Gas Production in Poland”, which will be attended by, among others, Janusz Steinhoff – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy in Jerzy Buzek’s cabinet, Mikołaj Budzanowski – Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the State Treasury, Katarzyna Kacperczyk – Counsel at the United States Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alastair Nichol – Vice-President of International New Ventures, Encana Corporation, Gretchen Watkins – Regional Vice-President of International Production Operations, Marathon Oil, Jacek Krawiec – President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN, and Michał Szubski – President of the Management Board of PGNiG. The panel will be led by Mr Tomasz Lis – Editor-in-Chief of the Wprost weekly. The participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges for companies exploring for shale gas in Poland and will compare the situation of such companies with the experience of other corporations which have implemented the technology in other parts of the world. The participants will also consider the strategic opportunities and challenges for Poland which arise from the discovery of rich unconventional gas reserves.

In addition, PKN ORLEN co-organises, together with PKO BP, PGE and PPL LOT, the panel discussion entitled “Polish EU Presidency: Extent of Regulation and Economic Competitiveness”. The special guests of this event will include Aleksander Grad, Minister of the State Treasury, and Mr Janusz Lewandowski, EU Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget. Representatives of PKN ORLEN will also actively participate in other key debates held as part of the 20th Economic Forum in Krynica and the 3rd Investment Forum in Tarnów. PKN ORLEN’s experts will attend the following panel discussions: - Power Generation – Security – Effectiveness – Politics; - Safety of Hydrocarbon Transport to Central Europe; - Best Business Strategies Enhancing Competitiveness while Ensuring Sustainable Development; - Low-Emission Economic Growth and Energy Efficiency in Poland.
