PKN ORLEN in the Prestigious RESPECT Index
Once again PKN ORLEN has successfully passed the review by experts who select listed companies for the prestigious RESPECT Index. Similar to last year, the Company has met the exacting selection criteria and for the second consecutive year remains eligible for inclusion in the RESPECT Index.
The main purpose of the RESPECT Index, now and in its first 2009 edition, has been to distinguish the companies which are managed in accordance with the principles of social responsibility and sustainable development. The project strongly emphasises a company's attractiveness to investors, which depends on a number of factors including the quality of reporting, investor relations and corporate governance. Liquidity being one of the selection criteria, the RESPECT Index, in common with other stock indices, represents a valid point of reference for professional investors.
Only those listed names may be added to the RESPECT Index which have successfuly passed the review process by the Project Partners, i.e. the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Deloitte Polska and the Polish Association of Listed Companies.
- In the modern world, not only is a responsible business expected to earn a profit and ensure legal compliance. In its day-to-day operations, it must also abide by a code of ethics, offer reasonable support to social initiatives and address the needs of local communities. All these areas are looked at very closely by our stakeholders. Like no other tool, the RESPECT Index provides a basis for comprehensive evaluation of a company's activities and the ability to balance its own interests with social needs, while striving to improve the conditions prevailing in its business and social environment. Therefore I am delighted that for the second consecutive year we are included in this elite group of companies - said Jacek Krawiec, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN.
