ORLEN Group increases its share in Czech retail market

Unipetrol, a subsidiary of PKN ORLEN, will acquire 68 service stations which are now part of OMV’s assets in the Czech Republic. The new acquisitions will operate under the Benzina brand. Conditions for closing the transaction include clearance from the Czech anti-trust authority.

Currently ORLEN Group’s retail business in the Czech Republic comprises 339 service stations under the Benzina brand. Once the new acquisitions are included in the network, this number will increase to over 400. Unipetrol RPA, which manages the chain of Benzina service stations, is also focusing on expansion of its non-fuel offering, including Stop Cafes (currently more than 130), which are developed according to Polish market standards.
In line with our strategy, the ORLEN Group is consistently growing sales in its home markets. This transaction allows us to further strengthen our leadership position on the Czech market. - said Marek Podstawa, Member of the Management Board, Sales.
ORLEN Group manages a network of 2,500 service stations located across Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Lithuania, which in 2014 alone brought in total retail revenue of over PLN 36bn.
With the newly acquired service stations, Unipetrol will be able to make more efficient use of its refining capacities, which increased last year following the acquisition of refining assets from Shell and Eni.
