PKN ORLEN has sent sanitiser liquids to Italy

PKN ORLEN has provided the Vatican and the Office of Papal Charities with protective products necessary to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The supplies will be donated to those most needy, who are under the direct care of Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the Papal Almoner. The efforts have been coordinated by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the Holy See.

Thanks to the aid provided by PKN ORLEN, the institution headed by the Papal Almoner will be able to support those most vulnerable and exposed to the pandemic. The protective products will be distributed to Vatican Gendarmerie units, which helped organise the World Youth Day in Poland, to the Swiss Guard, who are responsible for Pope Francis’s personal security and, first and foremost, to the needy, including the homeless, migrants, and residents of nursing homes.

‘Ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, we have been actively involved in fighting its spread in Poland. However, this unprecedented crisis calls for international solidarity. After Poland’s President Andrzej Duda spoke with Pope Francis, we decided to support the efforts taken by the Holy See for the most needy,’ said Daniel Obajtek, President of the PKN ORLEN Management Board.

The aid donated by PKN ORLEN included 705,000 disposable masks, 30,000 masks made by Poland-based company Brubeck, 3,600 5-litre containers of hand sanitiser liquid, 3,200 5-litre containers of surface disinfectant, and 10,000 protective coveralls.

‘I wish to express profound gratitude to the Polish authorities, President Andrzej Duda and the PKN ORLEN Management Board headed by Mr Daniel Obajtek for providing humanitarian aid to the Holy See, which – alongside Italy – is struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. Poland has confirmed its solidarity with those most in need of help. The donated masks and protective coveralls, as well as hand sanitizer liquids and surface disinfectants, will be distributed, through the Papal Almoner, to those who really need them,’ said Janusz Kotański, Poland’s Ambassador to the Holy See.

The support in the form of protective products is above all an expression of social responsibility of Poland’s multinational corporation in the face of the pandemic. Personal protective equipment was also sent by PKN ORLEN to Lithuania, to be provided to the Lithuanian government and to institutions which need it most.
