ORLEN achieves CIPS certification, confirming global procurement standards

ORLEN has been awarded a quality certification by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), recognising that its procurement processes meet the highest international standards. The company successfully met the stringent criteria set by the world’s leading professional body for procurement and supply, joining a distinguished group of global organisations that hold this accreditation. Each year, ORLEN carries out nearly 5,000 procurement procedures, including 1,000 with a contract value exceeding PLN 1 million, across more than 300 spend categories covering areas such as investment, production, and distribution.

“The scale of our procurement operations is immense – and continues to expand. Over the next decade, we expect to allocate up to PLN 380 billion to development and investment initiatives that will strengthen energy security in Poland and the wider region. This will involve thousands of procurement processes annually. The CIPS certification is a highly meaningful recognition for us. It affirms that we have successfully re-established strong corporate governance based on transparency and best practices. We have embedded procurement processes aligned with global standards, and our suppliers recognise and value our professionalism, ethical conduct, and commitment to process integrity,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the ORLEN Management Board.

As part of the certification process, ORLEN demonstrated that its procurement strategy is fully aligned with the organisation’s objectives, that its procurement practices are efficient and transparent, and that it upholds high standards in supplier relationship management, ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, corporate social responsibility, and the skill development of its procurement function.

The certificate is valid for two years. ORLEN is currently one of only two companies in Poland to hold this distinction.

“We were first awarded CIPS certification in 2015. Now, following consistent transformation across the organisation, we have once again joined the international community of organisations that meet the highest recognised standards in procurement and supply chain management,” said Roman Kowszewicz, Executive Director of Procurement at ORLEN.

The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is an independent, non-profit organisation established in 1932 in the United Kingdom at the initiative of the British government. Since 1992, it has held a Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth II, recognising its role in shaping ethical and professional standards in procurement and supply chain management. Today, CIPS represents over 200,000 members in more than 150 countries. Its certificates are considered the global benchmark for organisations committed to transparency, efficiency, and sustainable procurement practices.
