Knowledge Day with ORLEN
"Knowledge Day with ORLEN" is an educational project in which, through a series of workshops and lectures, we present the practical application of theoretical knowledge acquired at school and at university. It is an opportunity to learn about solutions, functioning market practices and innovation.
Objectives of the educational program
- the opportunity to learn about current issues in the field of science and business in an accessible and interesting way,
- awakening a passion for learning on the assumption that the easiest way to understand difficult issues is through specific examples and in practice,
- inspiration to take the first professional step in the ORLEN Group.
Implementation method
- in consultation with the selected university or technical school, we organize series of meetings,
- we cover topics interesting for pupils and students, which are a continuation or development of the thematic scope of the school curriculum,
- the meetings are held in the form of mini-lectures, presentations and quizzes, case-studies, and field visits,
- each topic presented by ORLEN practitioners takes about 1 to 3 hours.
Who are we looking for?
- the project is aimed at students and pupils of technical universities,
- we also invite teachers or study supervisors who are interested in up-to-date engineering knowledge to participate.

Participants’ opinions
The lecture extended my perspective of ORLEN Upstream's activities. The company's activity in Canada in the province of Alberta was a surprise to me. The presentation introduced issues related to planning investments in the exploration and production industry. In addition to potential resources, it is also important, for example, to pay attention to the political stability of the region, and thus the safety of equipment workers. The lecture showed that in the industry, failures are costly, but successes "pay back" the invested funds multiple times over.
For me, as a 4th year student of energy, the Knowledge Day with ORLEN was an interesting supplement to my studies, as the topic of my engineering thesis is closely related to the use of natural gas for energy purposes. The part of the lecture on the construction of the gas-steam plant in Włocławek with the use of animations presenting the operation of a gas turbine and a film showing how complicated the logistic challenge of delivering the main equipment to the power unit under construction proved to be, was especially thought-provoking.
I study geology and I was interested in ORLEN's plans for the coming years regarding exploration works aimed at finding hydrocarbon deposits, the exploitation of which would be profitable. The meeting as part of the Knowledge Day with ORLEN was also an opportunity to talk with ORLEN representatives about the possibility of an internship, which is worth trying in order to gain valuable professional experience.
