Purified terephthalic acid PTA
Crude terephthalic acid (CTA) is obtained by catalytic oxidation of paraxylene with oxygen contained in compressed air. In the next step, purified terephthalic acid PTA is obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of impurities contained in CTA.
Application
Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is used for manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyester fibres, polyamide fibres, films and plasticizers (DOTP).
