Power from the Baltic draws nearer: key component installed at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm

Baltic Power, a joint venture between ORLEN and Canada’s Northland Power, has completed the installation of two offshore substations, each weighing 2,500 tonnes. These are a key element of Poland’s first offshore wind farm and will collect the electricity generated by the turbines and transmit it to shore. Parts of both substations were manufactured at facilities in Gdynia and Gdańsk.

ORLEN secures PLN 3.5 billion from the National Recovery Plan for offshore wind development

In line with its strategy, ORLEN is consistently expanding low- and zero-emission generation capacities, materially strengthening the energy security of Poland and the wider region. A key pillar of these efforts is investment in offshore wind. To advance these projects, the Group has secured PLN 3.5 billion from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) under agreements signed with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK).

ORLEN strengthens hydrogen capabilities in Pomerania with expert advisory support for Amber Hydrogen Valley

The Amber Hydrogen Valley project, launched by ORLEN in collaboration with more than 30 domestic and international partners, has been selected to receive expert advisory support through Project Development Assistance Plus (PDA plus) services coordinated by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. The support, covering technical, commercial and regulatory expertise, will help optimise project development costs and guide the project through steps needed to reach final investment decision (FID).

ORLEN VC invests in breakthrough technology to produce synthetic aviation fuel

The corporate venture capital fund ORLEN VC has invested in a pioneering technology that converts zero-emission hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide into synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF). The innovative solution, developed by UK start-up OXCCU, will support the ORLEN Group’s strategy to expand its role in decarbonising air transport from 2030 onwards, in accordance with the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation.

ORLEN Group Launches SAF Fuels Across Baltic Markets

Aircraft departing from Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn can now refuel with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The fuel became available across Baltic markets last week through ORLEN Lietuva's distribution network. The Group had earlier introduced the fuel at Warsaw, Kraków and Katowice airports in Poland, as well as in Prague in the Czech Republic.

ORLEN Installs More Offshore Wind Turbines – Five Already in the Baltic Sea

At Baltic Power – the first Polish offshore wind farm, jointly developed by ORLEN and Northland Power – five turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, have already been installed. A single day of their operation can provide enough power to charge nearly 18,000 electric vehicles. These are the largest turbines currently available in Europe and were manufactured by Denmark’s Vestas. Some of the nacelles are manufactured locally, including at a facility in Szczecin.

ORLEN and Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza sign MoU to accelerate biomethane production in Poland

ORLEN and Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza (KGS), Poland’s largest state-owned agri-food group, have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop a nationwide biomethane portfolio. Under the new agreement, the parties will, inter alia, construct biomethane production facilities. The project is expected to curb CO₂ emissions, strengthen Poland’s energy security and independence, and enhance overall grid stability.

ORLEN launches sales of new aviation fuel: SAF now available at Polish airports

Aircraft departing from airports in Warsaw, Kraków, and Katowice can now refuel with SAF, following ORLEN’s addition of the fuel to its commercial offering. The new type of aviation fuel significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, both during production and combustion.

ORLEN commences installation of Europe’s largest offshore wind turbines. First Polish offshore turbine now in place

The ORLEN Group, in partnership with Northland Power, has successfully commenced the installation of Europe’s largest offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW. The first turbine has now been installed in Polish waters of the Baltic Sea, ushering in a new era for Poland’s economy with the inception of the offshore wind power sector. A single minute of turbine operation can generate enough electricity to power an electric bus for a 100-kilometre journey. Manufactured by Danish company Vestas, the turbines include components produced locally, including at a facility in Szczecin. As early as next year, the Baltic Power offshore wind farm will be capable of covering up to 3% of Poland’s electricity demand.
