The construction of a service base for offshore wind farm in Łeba has started

Work on the construction of a service base that will service the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a joint project between ORLEN Group and Northland Power, has begun in Łeba. It will be a mother port for vessels transporting equipment and technical personnel responsible for maintaining the investment. The base will employ a total of around 60 people and will service the farm for its entire life cycle, i.e. a minimum of 25 years.

Baltic Power the world's first offshore wind farm using low-emission steel

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a joint project of ORLEN Group and Northland Power, will be the first in the world to be built using Low-emission steel produced almost entirely from recycled raw material in an electric arc furnace powered by renewable energy. The use of this material will reduce the turbine's lifecycle carbon footprint by 10 per cent. The Baltic Power farm will start production in 2026 and will be able to power more than 1.5 million households.

ORLEN Group powers up oil & gas production in Norway with renewable energy

As early as next year, almost two-thirds of the gas produced by ORLEN Group on the Norwegian Continental Shelf will come from facilities powered by renewable energy produced onshore and delivered with submarine power cables. Such a solution has already been applied to the platforms at the Gina Krog, Ormen Lange, and Duva fields and will result in the abatement of over 88,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2024. There are also plans to electrify the Fenris and Yggdrasil fields, which are currently under development.

New onshore wind farms in the Greater Poland Voivodeship

ORLEN Wind 3, owned by the ORLEN Group, has signed an agreement to acquire wind farms from UK-based Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust PLC. The transaction encompasses assets situated in the Provinces of Poznań and Szczecin, with a total capacity of approximately 60 MW, sufficient to supply electricity to more than 100,000 households. The ORLEN Group currently boasts close to 1 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy sources.

ORLEN invests to increase energy efficiency of its Czech refinery

ORLEN Unipetrol, the ORLEN Group’s Czech subsidiary, is in the process of constructing a heat recovery unit at its production plant in Kralupy on the Vltava River. The aim of the project is to increase the energy efficiency of Kralupy refinery by flue gas waste heat utilization, which were previously released into the atmosphere. By using the recovery unit will be flue gas heat used for heating of turbine condensate and producing of boiler feed water using in various plant processes. Implementation of the recovery unit will lead to significant energy savings of 5 MW of the thermal energy per hour. Over the course of a year, the installation will enable the recovery of as much heat as would be sufficient to heat nearly 10,000 households. The innovative solution used in this project comes from idea of employee from ORLEN Unipetrol’s development department and have been developed by engineers from ORLEN Unipetrol. The project, valued at approximately CZK 0.5 billion (around PLN 100 million), aligns with the ORLEN Group’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

ORLEN boosts its onshore wind portfolio

The ORLEN Group has just completed a transaction to purchase the Ujazd, Dobrzyca, and Dominowo wind farms, with a combined capacity in excess of 140 MW. The final purchase agreement, signed with EDP Renewables Poland, encompasses some of Poland’s most high-performing onshore units. The transaction marks another significant addition this year to the Group’s expanding portfolio of renewable energy assets. With this latest development, the ORLEN Group now boasts an extensive onshore wind farm capacity of nearly 500 MW, reinforcing its position as the frontrunner in the Polish renewable energy sector.

ORLEN embarks on construction of Central Europe’s largest green energy project

The ORLEN Group has reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) to build Baltic Power, Poland’s first offshore wind farm. The project, set to bolster Poland’s energy system through the addition of nearly 1.2 GW in 2026, will be pursued in partnership with Canada’s Northland Power. Baltic Power will deliver sustainable, accessible energy to an estimated 1.5 million households. The FID means that with all the requisite construction permits in place, all key components contracted and financing secured, the project is primed for execution. Moreover, as part of its ongoing efforts to facilitate offshore industry development, the Group has initiated the construction of an installation terminal in Świnoujście.

ORLEN Group to invest in more wind farms

ORLEN has entered into a conditional agreement to purchase two wind farms from a subsidiary of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust PLC. Units with a total capacity of about 60 MW are located in the Provinces of Poznań and Szczecin. These wind farms, which became operational in 2022, match the energy consumption of over 100,000 households annually. Once the acquisition is completed, ORLEN will have an approximate total renewable capacity of almost 1 GW.
