Major Modernisation Programme for Poland’s Energy Networks

Energa Operator, a member of the ORLEN Group, has secured above PLN 7,5 billion from the National Recovery Plan to fund the largest power grid modernisation and digitalisation initiative in the company’s history, covering northern and central Poland. The project involves upgrading and constructing a total of 21,000 kilometres of power lines, which will enhance the country’s energy security and ultimately lower energy costs for end-users. A key component of this initiative is the planned integration of 9 GW of renewable energy sources, characterised by low variable production costs, along with energy storage facilities. The programme will also enable 200,000 new prosumers to connect to the grid. The total value of the programme, extending through 2035, amounts to PLN 40 billion.

ORLEN earns high global environmental rating

The ORLEN Group has achieved a strong rating in an independent global environmental assessment conducted by the CDP, an environmental rating organisation. The company received a ‘B’ score in the Climate category, a significant improvement from previous years when it was rated ‘D’. This leap in performance underscores ORLEN’s awareness of its influence on the planet and commitment to systematically mitigate its environmental impacts.

Record-breaking year for ORLEN’s small-scale LNG sales

In 2024, the ORLEN Group delivered nearly 244 thousand tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to customers, marking an almost 30% increase year on year. The LNG is primarily sourced from the Świnoujście terminal, as well as from the transshipment terminal in Klaipėda and the company’s own production facilities. The fuel is supplied to various customers, including private consumers in areas with limited access to the national gas network.

ORLEN discovers a new gas field in the Province of Poznań

Nearly a quarter of a billion cubic meters of gas – this is the size of the reserves in the Siedlemin field near the town of Jarocin. The swift commencement of production from this new find will be facilitated by the extensive extraction infrastructure in the region. ORLEN is currently operating three gas fields in the County of Jarocin and plans to explore additional prospects in the area.

ORLEN removed from the Norwegian "list of shame"

As a result of corrective actions taken by the current Management Board, ORLEN regained the trust of Norges Bank Investment Management and was removed from the watch list. The company entered it after the purchase of the Polska Press media company by the previous management. His actions were then assessed by the Norwegian bank as resulting in a risk of "human rights violations". Norges Bank removed the concern from the list a year earlier than the expected observation period, concluding that the actions of the current Management Board eliminated the previously identified risks.

ORLEN and Northland Power Commence Construction of Poland’s First Offshore Wind Farm

After months of preparation, a fleet of 11 specialised vessels has mobilised to begin installing the foundations for Poland’s first offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. This stage has already seen the successful installation of the first two of a total of 78 monopiles – towering 100-metre steel structures that will support 15 MW wind turbines. These generation units are among the most advanced in the industry, with a portion being manufactured at Vestas’ facility in Szczecin. With a total capacity of 1.2 GW, the Baltic Power wind farm is set to commence operations in 2026, delivering clean, reliable electricity capable of powering over 1.5 million households. Offshore wind is a key element of the ORLEN Group’s new strategy, which targets the deployment of more than 4 GW of installed capacity in the Baltic Sea in partnership with leading industry players.

Business-science alliance for innovative e-fuels

Under an agreement signed today, ORLEN has partnered with the Warsaw University of Technology Branch in Płock and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków to collaborate on advancing the technology for synthetic fuels production. The collaboration aims to jointly seek funding from domestic and European sources, provide expert support in establishing research infrastructure, utilise advanced process modelling tools available at the universities, conduct research projects and train future personnel for the ORLEN Group, which will be the primary benefits of today’s agreement.
